After launching the beta version of the Web Stories plugin in July, Google announces the deployment of the stable version of the plugin, with improvements made following initial feedback. You can already download the plugin.

This plugin allows WordPress site owners to easily create Web Stories (formerly known as AMP Stories) from an intuitive editor. The goal of these stories is to optimize the mobile experience with more visual content and adapted interactions, while offering an optimized display speed.

These Web Stories can then be published on a page on a website, and can be found on Google search results as well as on Google Discover.

An easy-to-use plugin

The plugin has a drag-and-drop feature that makes it easy to move items such as images or text, without requiring special technical knowledge. Many features simplify story creation: saved colors and styles, layer management, image masking and gradient editing, visual media gallery, etc.

Google is also announcing its collaboration with the Unsplash royalty-free image bank and the Coverr video bank to allow users to search and insert images or videos with a few clicks on their AMP stories.

Story models available

You can create your own template or select a template from those offered by the plugin. To go further, Google also leaves resources and advice on its dedicated Web Stories site.

Note: The Web Stories plugin for WordPress is open source, which means that it takes into account community contributions, whether these are direct code contributions or requests for new features.
